Scarborough® Weatherboards
The Scarborough fibre cement weatherboard strikes a balance between contemporary and traditional home styles. Featuring a smooth surface and flat face without decorative rebates, these 12mm thick boards create a medium-depth shadow line when overlapped.
Positioned in the middle of Cemintel’s weatherboard range, Scarborough weatherboards are a versatile choice. For a more modern aesthetic, the thicker 16mm Balmoral weatherboards are recommended, while the 10mm Headland weatherboards with decorative grooves are ideal for a traditional look.
Scarborough weatherboards are particularly suited for renovating timber cottages. In many 1950s homes, old timber weatherboards may be warped, split, or rotted. Recladding workers’ cottages or suburban homes with Scarborough fibre cement weatherboards instantly revitalises facades, offering a crisp and well-maintained appearance.
Scarborough weatherboards also pair beautifully with decorative elements. For a classic look, paint them in a neutral tone and accentuate the façade with contrasting white trims, verandah posts, and ornate fretwork around the verandah’s edge.

Product Information
With their medium-depth shadow line and standard width, Scarborough weatherboards are a versatile choice that complements all weatherboard home designs.
For a contemporary look, pair these weatherboards with a simple, well-proportioned home shape. Whether you choose a flat or steeply pitched roof, Scarborough weatherboards shine in crisp white or deep grey tones.
Scarborough weatherboards are perfect for American coastal styles like Hamptons or Cape Cod. While authentic American homes often feature timber shingles, fibre cement weatherboards are a more suitable option for Australian conditions. They maintain the charm of these styles while offering the durability required for our climate.
This coastal aesthetic is popular for its light, breezy, and welcoming vibe, evoking a relaxed beach house or holiday home atmosphere. For the classic coastal look, paint the weatherboards in a neutral tone and add contrast with white window trims, rafter tails, plantation shutters, and balustrades.
Scarborough weatherboards are not only durable but also quick to install, making them ideal for new builds in both greenfield and urban infill developments. For knockdown-rebuild projects, customising the decorative details allows these weatherboards to seamlessly blend into established streetscapes.

Installation
Nailing 12mm thick fibre cement can be challenging, but Scarborough weatherboards feature a shallow nailing groove that acts as a helpful guide, ensuring fixings are concealed beneath the board overlap. The boards can be either hand-nailed or gun-nailed for convenience.
For installation, simply nail the boards to timber stud frames or screw them to light gauge steel frames. Depending on wind zone requirements, stud spacing can be up to 600mm.
To minimise waste, boards can be joined off-stud using a metal soaker accessory (Order no. 89857). Cavity fixing is also an option using vertical timber or fibre cement battens.
Cemintel Scarborough weatherboards are compliant with the National Construction Code (NCC) Volume One clause C2D1 Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions (6)(d), making them suitable for use where non-combustible materials are required.
These weatherboards are also suitable for Bushfire Attack Levels (BAL) up to BAL-29 when installed in accordance with Australian Standard AS3959. In high-risk areas, external walls can be upgraded to BAL-FZ when Scarborough weatherboards are incorporated into a fire-rated plasterboard wall system.
If Scarborough doesn’t quite meet your needs, the Street Style range offers other weatherboards with varying thicknesses and profiles:
Balmoral Weatherboards (180mm width): Similar in size to Scarborough but with a 16mm thickness for deeper, more contemporary shadow lines.
Headland Weatherboards: Slightly narrower than both Balmoral and Scarborough, these 10mm thick boards feature a decorative horizontal rebate, offering a more traditional weatherboard look.
